Uttar Pradesh MSMEs Set for Global Leap: A Landmark Partnership with Walmart Vriddhi
Great news for the entrepreneurial spirit of Uttar Pradesh! In a strategic move set to significantly boost the state’s economy, the Uttar Pradesh government has joined forces with the Walmart Vriddhi Supplier Development Programme. This isn’t just another agreement; it’s a powerful partnership aimed at integrating UP’s vibrant Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) into the global marketplace.
The Export Promotion Bureau, under the state’s MSME and Export Promotion Department, and the Ideas to Impact Foundation (a part of Walmart Vriddhi) have signed a non-financial Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This three-year agreement, with potential for extension, is designed to supercharge the global competitiveness of UP’s businesses, strengthening their presence in both domestic and international trade.
Empowering MSMEs: Capacity Building & Digital Readiness
At the heart of this collaboration is a robust plan for capacity building and digital enablement. MSMEs across Uttar Pradesh will gain access to invaluable support, including:
- Digital Enablement Training: Equipping businesses with the skills needed to thrive in the digital age.
- E-commerce Preparedness: Guiding entrepreneurs on effectively leveraging online platforms.
- Packaging Standards & Quality Compliance: Ensuring products meet international benchmarks.
- Certifications & Market Access Strategies: Opening doors to new markets and building trust.
Entrepreneurs will benefit from free training and mentorship through the acclaimed Walmart Vriddhi programme, helping them navigate and succeed on both domestic and cross-border e-commerce platforms. The ultimate goal? To significantly boost exports and create new employment opportunities by seamlessly integrating MSMEs into national and global value chains.
Aligned with Vision 2030: UP’s Export Promotion Policy
This initiative perfectly aligns with the Uttar Pradesh Export Promotion Policy 2025–30, which places a strong emphasis on e-commerce-led exports. To ease the journey for new entrants, the policy offers a one-time incentive for first-time exporters, covering 75 percent of e-commerce platform listing fees, capped at a generous Rs 3 lakh. This proactive measure is set to dramatically reduce entry barriers and facilitate global market access for businesses from the state.
Industry Leaders Applaud the Initiative
The partnership has been met with widespread enthusiasm from industry leaders.
Alok Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary, Infrastructure and Industrial Development, MSME and Export Promotion and NRI Department, highlighted Uttar Pradesh’s growing stature: “Uttar Pradesh is rapidly emerging as a key hub for exports and e-commerce in the country. MSMEs form the backbone of our state’s economy, and this partnership is expected to significantly expand market access and create new growth opportunities for them.”
Mukesh Singh, Chairman, UP Co-ordination Committee of the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce, echoed this sentiment, welcoming the move. He noted that challenges such as access to global buyers, adherence to international quality standards, and digital readiness often hinder small businesses. Singh emphasized, “Programmes such as Walmart Vriddhi can effectively bridge these gaps and accelerate export growth from Uttar Pradesh.”
This landmark partnership marks a pivotal moment for Uttar Pradesh’s MSMEs, promising a future of enhanced global competitiveness, increased exports, and robust economic growth for the state.
