Srisailam, the sacred abode of Lord Mallikarjuna Swamy and Goddess Bhramaramba Devi, was enveloped in a spiritual glow as it celebrated Ugadi, the Telugu New Year, with immense devotion and grandeur. The auspicious advent of the ‘Sri Parabhava Nama Samvatsara’ was marked by an array of vibrant ceremonies at the revered Srisailam Temple on Thursday.
The air around the ancient temple premises was thick with the fragrant aroma of flowers, incense, and camphor, creating an ethereal atmosphere. Thousands of devotees, thronging from various parts of the region, converged to witness and participate in the sacred festivities. The temple, adorned with colorful decorations and illuminated by countless lamps, presented a breathtaking spectacle, reflecting the joyous spirit of the new year.
Special pujas and rituals were meticulously performed for the presiding deities, invoking their divine blessings for prosperity, peace, and well-being throughout the ‘Parabhava Nama Samvatsara’. A highlight of the celebrations was the traditional Panchanga Sravanam, where learned priests elucidated the astrological predictions and the annual calendar for the new year. Devotees listened intently, seeking insights into the fortunes and challenges that the coming year might hold.
The collective devotion of the devotees was palpable, as they offered their prayers with fervent faith, many taking holy dips in the sacred Krishna river before performing their rituals. The festivities culminated in the distribution of Ugadi Pachadi, a unique blend of six tastes – sweet, sour, bitter, pungent, salty, and spicy – symbolizing life’s varied experiences and the importance of embracing them with equanimity.
As the day transitioned into evening, casting a serene glow over the Nallamala hills, Srisailam continued to resonate with spiritual energy, leaving indelible memories of a truly divine beginning to the ‘Parabhava Nama Samvatsara’. May this new year usher in joy, harmony, and blessings for all.
