THINK Gas Begins National Drive 2.0 to Expand PNG and CNG: Powering India’s Green Future

India’s journey towards a cleaner, gas-based economy just received a significant boost! THINK Gas, a leading City Gas Distribution (CGD) company, has officially launched its participation in the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board’s (PNGRB) National Drive 2.0. The campaign kicked off with an inaugural event in Jodhpur, setting the stage for nationwide expansion of cleaner and more affordable energy options.

Igniting the Vision: One Nation, One Grid, One Tariff

The National Drive 2.0 is a monumental step towards realizing the vision of “One Nation, One Grid, One Tariff.” This initiative aims to expand Piped Natural Gas (PNG) access for households and accelerate the adoption of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) for vehicles across India. The Jodhpur inauguration was graced by Dr. Anil Kumar Jain, IAS, Chairperson – PNGRB, and Mr. Amitava Sengupta, Chairman of THINK Gas, underscoring the collaborative spirit driving this ambitious project.

THINK Gas’s Commitment: Connecting Households and Powering Mobility

As a key player in this national endeavor, THINK Gas has announced an impressive commitment:

  • Connecting 30,000+ households with new PNG connections.
  • Enhancing the CNG station network across 10 states where THINK Gas operates.

During the Jodhpur launch, THINK Gas immediately commenced operations to provide PNG connections to 500 households in Ashiana Dwarka – Premium Homes and organized a lively CNG rally to symbolize the growing embrace of CNG in the region.

The Impact of Unified Tariff and Reduced Prices

Dr. Anil Kumar Jain highlighted the transformative power of the Unified Tariff framework, which is enhancing affordability, transparency, and access to natural gas. He praised THINK Gas’s significant investment of over ₹510 crore in the Barmer–Jodhpur–Jaisalmer Geographical Area and their innovative LCNG-based hybrid supply model, which ensures uninterrupted gas supply even in areas without direct pipeline connectivity.

The results in Jodhpur are already impressive, with nearly 60% of the city covered and over 51,000 households connected. Consumers are also seeing tangible benefits, with domestic PNG prices reduced by ₹2.77 per SCM from January 1, 2026, in Rajasthan, and even greater reductions in other areas. Dr. Jain expressed confidence that National Drive 2.0 will significantly accelerate PNG and CNG adoption, strengthening India’s clean energy ecosystem.

Benefits for the End Consumer

Aligning with PNGRB’s Unified Tariff revision, THINK Gas has also announced substantial price reductions across its operating Geographical Areas:

  • Domestic PNG prices reduced by up to ₹5/SCM (standard cubic meter).
  • CNG prices reduced by up to ₹2.50/KG in select Geographical Areas.

Remarkably, THINK Gas has extended these benefits even to states not yet connected to the National Gas Grid. Domestic PNG prices have been reduced by up to ₹4/SCM in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, and by up to ₹2.77/SCM in Rajasthan, ensuring wider access to affordable, clean energy.

A Future Powered by Clean Energy

Mr. Amitava Sengupta lauded National Drive 2.0 as a landmark initiative that builds on the success of last year’s drive. He emphasized THINK Gas’s commitment to intensifying customer engagement across its licensed Geographical Areas. “The strong response to last year’s National Drive clearly demonstrated the impact of focused outreach,” Mr. Sengupta stated. “Building on this momentum, THINK Gas will further scale PNG and CNG adoption and support India’s transition towards a gas-based economy.”

The campaign will actively run from January to March 2026 across the 10 states where THINK Gas operates: Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Bihar, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, and Himachal Pradesh. These customer-centric reforms and initiatives by the PNGRB are poised to bring about a significant increase in the adoption of Piped Natural Gas and Compressed Natural Gas nationwide, paving the way for a greener, cleaner India.
